WHAT’S COMING ISN’T FOR THE FAINT OF HEART
By Scott Ede – Alberta Son
Can you see what’s happening? The temperature in Alberta’s political landscape is rising fast — and what’s coming isn’t for the faint of heart.
Over the past few months, the attacks have been intensifying. You can feel it everywhere:
Have you noticed more direct hits on conservative leaders?
Have you seen more lazy comparisons to Trump?
Have you seen the spike in negativity across Alberta-focused sites?
Have you noticed the constitutional challenges piling up in court?
And have you seen the overseas pundits suddenly lecturing Alberta like they understand us?
These aren’t random. These are early warning signs.
The pressure is building because Alberta is asking hard questions — and the rest of Canada doesn’t know how to deal with that. Whenever a province pushes back, the response is always the same: smear, distract, deny, and intimidate.
Here’s the truth: the more Alberta asserts itself, the louder the backlash will grow.
Escalating Attacks on Conservative Leadership
Alberta’s conservative leaders are facing a coordinated wave of criticism — not just locally, but across national media and online commentators. The tone has shifted from policy disagreement to personal condemnation. Every misstep becomes a scandal. Every meeting becomes a conspiracy. Every attempt to defend Alberta becomes an excuse to attack.
This is happening because Alberta’s influence is growing. And when you challenge the status quo, the status quo fights back hard.
The Trump Comparisons
One of the laziest tactics is lumping Alberta’s conservatives in with Donald Trump. It’s not analysis — it’s a smear designed to shut down debate. It’s meant to frame Alberta as extreme, unstable, or reckless.
People use the comparison because it’s emotionally charged. They know it triggers people. And they’re counting on that.
Constitutional Battles Heating Up
Alberta’s push for more autonomy — or full independence — has moved from theory into the courts. Legal challenges are multiplying. Groups are preparing for referendums. Advocacy organizations are picking up steam.
This is exactly why the blowback is intensifying. When independence stops being a joke and starts becoming a legal and political reality, fear sets in. And fear turns into attack.
International and National Negativity
For the first time in years, international commentators are weighing in on Alberta’s internal politics. Most don’t understand our history, our economics, or our identity — but that doesn’t stop them from lecturing.
Meanwhile, national commentators paint Albertans as angry, out-of-touch, or radical. It’s easier to mock a province than to address the real issues driving dissatisfaction: economic imbalances, political alienation, and a federation that treats Alberta like a bank machine rather than a partner.
The Personal Cost: Intimidation and Silence
Yesterday I spoke with someone who told me they were verbally attacked simply for supporting independence. They’ve decided to step back — not because they’ve changed their mind, but because the hostility isn’t worth it.
He’s not the first. And he won’t be the last.
I experience it too. The keyboard warriors always show up. And some of what they say goes beyond “thick skin.” Some are out to silence anyone who believes Alberta can stand strong on its own. Most of their threats mean nothing — but in a movement like ours, you never know who’s serious and who’s just loud.
This is how people get pushed out of the conversation. This is how public support gets quieted. Not because the ideas are wrong — but because the attacks are relentless.
What to Expect Next
The truth is simple: the intensity will keep rising. The closer Alberta gets to real autonomy — the more momentum independence gains — the harder the opposition will hit.
Expect:
• More smears
• More fear mongering
• More legal battles
• More attempts to silence supporters
• More national voices trying to “put Alberta in its place”
But also expect this:
More Albertans waking up.
More Albertans realizing the old arrangement isn’t working.
More Albertans ready to speak up, even when it’s hard.
More Albertans refusing to be intimidated.
This is only the beginning — and every movement that ever mattered had to go through its own storm before it made history.
We shouldn’t be afraid of the storm. We should understand it means we’re on the right path.
Stand strong. Keep speaking. Keep building. Alberta’s future is still ours to shape.
