“The Liberal Party of Canada hosted its French-language debate on Monday evening, and let’s just say, things didn’t go very well for Liberal front-runner Mark Carney.
Despite being the heavy favourite to win the leadership selection on March 9th, it became clear early on that his command of the French language was the weakest of the candidates.
Jean Philippe Fournier, a former advisor to Québec’s Minister of Finance, told me it was “an absolute disgrace.”
“Carney was surprisingly bad at French and oftentimes seemed visibly confused or unable to answer basic questions,” he said.
“He might not survive a real debate against Pierre Poilievre.”
Fournier posted on X that Carney was “clearly confused” and needed the moderator to repeat instructions in English.
Another user from Quebec, govt_corrupt, wrote that “Carney was easily the weakest of the 4 candidates.”
Perhaps the worst moment of the night came when Mark Carney accidentally stated that he agrees “with Hamas.”
"Alors, nous sommes d'accord avec Hamas. Nous sommes d'accord avec une two-state..."
“So, we agree with Hamas.
We agree with a two-state...”
Later in the debate, Carney made another confused remark about CBC funding where he appeared to accuse Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre of wanting “to abolish Quebec.”

“If the Liberals are looking for a leader with real backbone, they’d better think twice before crowning this guy.
Because if this performance was any indication—Carney’s not the future.
This wasn’t a leader.
This was a clipboard-carrying bureaucrat trying to convince us he’s Winston Churchill.
And if this is what the Liberals want to put up against Trump, Poilievre, or even a toaster with a personality, they’re in for a brutal, humiliating, can’t-look-away kind of reality check.”
🧐“House leader Joseph Schow also revealed Monday there will be a bill to protect freedoms during emergencies.
That should be interesting.
By emergencies, Schow mostly means pandemics. So we’ll get a taste of the Smith government’s appetite (or not) for lockdowns, and vaccine and mask mandates.”
