Here is my thinking on what seems to be the immediate future of Alberta political landscape.
1) Mitch drives Danielle out and takes over the UCP party.
OR
2) Danielle stays in but disenfranchises the true Sovereigntists and the party either loses or barely wins in the next election, effectively neutering the UCP from doing anything.
If Mitch gets in, I feel like he would likely start off pushing thru some changes we all might like… AT FIRST. Like give the Bill of Rights some bite, move to Alberta Pension, move to Alberta tax collection, Alberta policing. Perhaps put a stop to equalization. What worries me about Mitch is how brash he might get if he gets a little power and that he will go rogue and start dictating and pushing thru changes we might NOT want in the long run - running roughshod over Albertans. I feel he might do what he wants come hell or high water. That he would become entitled. I feel like we might agree with some of the changes but the end does not justify the means and makes us just as bad as the left. And I question the means. He seems to like to manipulate and go around the rules with no conscience. I am not sure he buys into democracy at all and might not care about the will of the people at all. I feel like he thinks he knows best. Same with Wrath. I think it all goes down hill from there.
Danielle, on the other hand, will likely keep saying one thing and doing… well.. nothing… like she has been. She will continue to think we are too stupid to remember what she said 3,4,5 years ago and that we can’t see the changes in what she says now. If she doesn’t want to do something, she will impale it in analysis paralysis. She is all talk and no follow thru. And she plans to stay that way. We have outlived her purposes. Floor crossing is her MO. Wildrose, the vax, sovereignty, APP, taxation, policing, pipelines, equalization, property rights, carbon taxes. She has changed her mind on all of it.
So. Which snake is the best snake? I don’t like snakes. And the Alberta political landscape is full of them.
Perhaps I am just disillusioned because i was duped. Worse yet, I convinced my skeptical husband to be duped with me. I was duped with Kenney and now again with Danielle.
