Besides being confused that none of the questions on the referendum are binding or really addressing any meaningful issues for Albertans (pension, tax collection, policing, equalization), I am confused about the No to the nine crowd. The left is owned by the unions, the teachers union, the nurses unions. The teachers complain incessantly about class sizes and the English as a second language kids and special needs kids. Nurses complain about how busy and how overrun they are in hospital and how healthcare needs to be protected - all concerns deeply impacted by immigration … AND YET… they want to say No to the Nine. So they want to whine but they don’t really want to solve the root cause of the problem that impacts them every day. Nothing drives me crazier than a person who wants to vent and identify problems without any commitment to finding a solution.
What confuses me is to be so blinded by your need to disagree with the conservatives that you would not even think thru the first 9 questions on the referendum and how they could impact your own situation or solve your own issues.
I read every question… understood the intent of every question… for myself. Made sure that I answered in alignment with my personal values and not based on some group or some slogan. I wanted to make sure I wasn’t just saying yes because the left was saying no. That would be insane!
I am also confused because in light of DS’s non-separation referendum question 10, I don’t really understand why ANYONE on either side would choose option 1. Option 1 means to me that you believe Albertans should NOT have a RIGHT to a say and a voice about their own future. Because option 2 is not saying we would seperate, it’s saying that we want our opinion on it, either way, to count.. (“binding”) . Everyone should want their voice to be heard. Option 1 just says … don’t even ask us our opinion- we’re not smart enough to have one.

I met a real "Most Alberta Woman" yesterday in Cremona.
Her name is Alana Miller. She and her husband are cattle ranchers. She showed up in her SUV, with a small child in the back seat. She was still wearing her work clothes. She was in a mild panic.
"Did I miss it? Are you guys closed?"
She desperately wanted to sign the petition. She came prepared with 5 documents to prove her identity and her physical address.
Everyone there was taken aback by her smile and enthusiasm. She is the future of Alberta, and we all knew it.
I asked her if I coud film her, and I'm so glad she agreed.
They say 2,000, so likely around 5,000 people
“It’s a movement. It’s a culture. It’s not going away. This is a wave in Alberta that’s going to sustain,” said Cory Morgan
The sea of blue flags at the legislature grounds on Saturday made the crowd seem larger than the 2,000 or so who were there. Before the speakers took the stage, they shimmied as an Alberta-themed remake of Lynyrd Skynyrd’s “Sweet Home Alabama” played. They roared in approval when Nickelback was cranked over the sound system.
The crowd booed heartily each and every time Prime Minister Mark Carney’s name was called out. They catcalled at any mention of the European Union.
