The UCP governance policies provide a route to remove a premier. According to the policy if 22 constituency associations request a special SGM for the purpose of reviewing the premier it must be held. This had never been done before in Alberta as far as I know, but it is the policy that was used to remove Jason Kenney. There are people within various groups agitating against Danielle, especially APP. So as they’re frustrated with getting rid of her, the word quietly goes out that each CA board can hold a meeting and call for an SGM. My friend is not convinced that this is happening out of the blue as an isolated event with one CA board. There are agitators whispering to CA board members that this is a good way to get rid of her. Airdrie had their CA meeting last week and this surfaced but, thankfully, it was voted down.
As you all know, I continue to be a strong supporter of Danielle having learned to appreciate her and her values and most of her ethics while she was on radio. I don’t believe she has changed. Rather, I believe there are forces that are attempting to control her actions and messages. I do believe she is the same Danielle as we learned to admire when she was on QR. I admit to being “done” with her after the floor crossing, but as I listened to her on the radio, and her repeated apologies for having done that, I began to love this outspoken but humble person all over again. I was almost hired to work for her prior to the floor crossing, but the day I was to be offered the position, I had a bad MVA and it has taken years to resolve the effects of that.
I have a deep concern about this backlash as those who are wanting her out of the position, don’t have a good replacement. I would argue that we need to continue to do all we can for independence with Danielle as our Premier and wait for the outcome. We can't have hotheads angry at the world, take her out as I see no one on the horizon who has both the knowledge and stamina to replace her.
