Today, critics of Alberta's independence movement came after the people, the process, and the politics — the facts pushed back on all three.

First, a BetaKit article spotlighted an AI company tracking foreign accounts posting about Alberta independence, and critics leapt to claim the whole movement is foreign-driven. The RCMP already found no evidence of organized foreign interference. Seven hundred thousand Albertans didn't sign petitions because a content farm told them to.

Next, NDP Leader Naheed Nenshi wrote a letter demanding CSIS investigate foreign interference, despite the RCMP announcing it found none. CSIS needs actual evidence before opening an investigation. Nenshi wants a grand conspiracy to point at; the facts keep refusing.

Finally, federal Liberal minister Eleanor Olszewski argued in the National Post that this is not the time for Alberta to debate its future, citing tariffs and global instability. But Albertans didn't create those problems — they didn't impose the emissions cap, block pipelines, or drive away investment. The Liberals built the mess and are now asking Albertans to wait while they clean it up.

Let's set the record straight.

Treaty chiefs from across Alberta are calling for the RCMP and Auditor General to investigate Premier Danielle Smith and members of the UCP government over allegations their actions may amount to treason under the Criminal Code.

The Assembly of Treaty Chiefs of Treaty No. 6, Treaty No. 7 and Treaty No. 8 unanimously passed the resolution during a meeting held Tuesday on Treaty No. 7 territory in Calgary.

The chiefs said the investigation should examine whether Smith and the UCP violated treaty obligations, created risks to Canadian sovereignty through a referendum and failed to address alleged privacy violations affecting millions of people.

They also claimed the government’s actions have taken place amid “significant risks of foreign interference and influence.”

The resolution calls for immediate action by the RCMP and the Auditor General to determine whether the conduct meets...
