Hello locals
A few weeks back, I planted my peppers, watermelons, cantaloupe and bulb onions in the house and they are now up about 3 inches. I have been chomping at the bit to plant the rest of the seeds ever since. Today is the day. Today I planted all my cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, brussel sprouts, tomatoes, cucumbers and for the first time, spaghetti squash seeds in seed trays in the greenhouse and made sure the heater is on and ready to heat up the germination table when the greenhouse gets below 17c.
The setup: The heater is under a table with grated top, a big plastic sheet covers the table on all sides right down to the floor. The seed trays are on top of the plastic. When the temperature starts to drop at roughly 6 or 7pm, we will go down to the greenhouse and cover the seed trays with a second layer of plastic that goes part way to the floor on all sides. When the temperature falls, the temperature regulating propane heater comes on under the table, heating up just the areas that need it. It has reduced our propane usage over the last 3 years while getting nearly 100% germination rates for our seeds.
Last year I talked about trying electriculture but hubby thought I was a quack. This year he is wiling to try. We are going to put some electriculture stakes on 1 bed and leaving another right beside it without. We will know if what we read is accurate later in the year. I will let you know what we think of it.
Next weekend, potatoes will go in the buckets and about 3 weeks later, potatoes, peas, bean, carrots will go in the garden.
It’s SPRING and I feel like I have been waiting extra long this year!!
Hope you are all doing well.
