OK here's my email to Danielle regarding the Rural Renewal Stream policy.
"Premier Smith,
This program just came to my attention and I have some questions:
1. Why are you promoting the hiring of foreign workers when Albertans, including our youth, can't find work because of the influx of immigrants and TFWs?
2. Why are you promoting sending immigrants to rural Conservative-voting Alberta when the majority of immigrants vote Liberal? That's the definition of cutting-off-your-nose-to-spite-your-face.
3. Why is the RRS information available in 15 different languages? If you are coming to Alberta, you should be able to speak English or French - the only two official languages of Canada. This is not a good use of my tax dollars nor beneficial to Alberta to have non-English speaking workers. (On one hand you ask Ottawa to eliminate the requirement for bilingualism so that English-speaking Albertans can access federal positions then you kowtow to multilingualism in this RRS program?!)
Just two weeks ago, you said yourself that "we will address head on the challenge of OUT OF CONTROL IMMIGRATION LEVELS that are overwhelming our core social services." (https://youtu.be/0DqRUXRUWc0?si=y7xqpvKrUj0RC32z) so I don't understand the need for this "Rural Renewal Stream" policy. In fact, I'm opposed to it.
Incentivize Albertans to live and work in rural Alberta. Your first responsibility is to address the needs of Albertans who already live here, who need access to education and medical care, and who are in need of employment. Alberta does not need to import the 3rd world - we see the results of that in places such as Toronto, Minnesota, Texas, the UK, to name a few.
In fact, Pierre Poilievre has just come out with a petition to "Hire Canadian"(https://www.conservative.ca/cpc/hire_canadian_email/?utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=2026-03-09%20%20Hire%20Canadian&utm_content=2026-03-09%20%20Hire%20Canadian+CID_a42dd425fd9be6c91a0156120c46996d&utm_source=cpc_cmf) saying that the Liberals want to expand immigration rather than prioritize unemployed young Canadians. So this RRS policy of yours seems to be more aligned with Carney's Liberals than Poilievre's Conservatives!
I hope I receive a personal response to my questions and concerns and not a boilerplate email. Thank you for your time."

The Liberal government has nominated a senior official from the national financial intelligence agency as Ottawa’s next fiscal watchdog.
Wayne Long, secretary of state for financial institutions, tabled a nomination Monday asking MPs to approve Annette Ryan to take on the currently vacant role of parliamentary budget officer.
The nomination is for a seven-year term.
Ryan has worked in the public service for more than a decade and currently serves as a deputy director at the Financial Transactions and Reports Analysis Centre, better known as Fintrac.
The Office of the Parliamentary Budget Officer scrutinizes federal spending decisions and helps to cost out campaign proposals during elections.
Interim PBO Jason Jacques’ term expired on March 2 without a successor in place.
