CHEK News is now reporting that K’ómoks First Nation has issued eviction notices to residents of the Queneesh Mobile Home Park.
These aren’t squatters, speculators, or people who showed up last month.
These are long-time residents. Some are on fifty‑year leases. They grew up, some raised their families and retired there.
Now they’re being told to pack their bags and move on.
The Nation says the land is needed to house band members facing an acute housing shortage. I’m not denying that problem exists that’s not the argument.
The issue is the logic behind the system we’ve built and what happens when it finally collides with this new reality.
If all land can be “reclaimed” because it is “rightfully” Indigenous territory, what happens when Indigenous authorities decide to do this in Vancouver?
