Someone was asking earlier how many recall petitions were still out there. Here’s that info from this week’s Alberta Institute report.
“Half of the recall petitions launched against United Conservative Party MLAs have now failed, with four more efforts recently falling short, according to Elections Alberta. One of the unsuccessful campaigns targeted Agriculture Minister R.J. Sigurdson, gathering only about 9% of the nearly 16,000 signatures required to trigger a vote in his riding. Petitions against other caucus members, including Muhammad Yaseen and Speaker Ric McIver, also failed to meet the threshold, while one effort was withdrawn before the deadline. There are still 12 active petitions against UCP members, including one aimed at the premier, as well as two targeting Alberta NDP MLAs. Many petition organizers cited concerns over the government’s use of the notwithstanding clause and dissatisfaction with local representation. To force a recall vote, organizers must collect ...

Finally…some good news for a change.
Because, despite this having been reported previously, more Calgarians are aware today.
Our New Calgary City Council is looking to repeal the Blanket Rezoning in Calgary, notices in mailboxes today.
This is just a hearing…not an official decision, but it’s definitely worth noting and showing up to/for, if you can make it.
What you have to remember about this is…the Unofficial Party - Calgarians for a Progressive Future, was the party that:
1. Is PRO-Blanket Rezoning; &
2. Had the most amount of candidates that they endorsed win a seat in council.
They beat out the elections favorite, ‘Communities First’, promoted by Member of Parliament - Stephanie Kusie, seeing their mayoral selection and former city councillor - Sonya Shart - lose by a narrow margin of about 600 votes - to current ...
