When we visited Thailand a few years back, we noticed that schools were open from early morning until approx 8 pm. They had shifts of students that attended. Younger students in the morning until mid afternoon and the older grades went later in the day until into the evening.
The Thai people said they did this because it would be a waste for the building to sit empty. They were open air schools, so that waste of classroom space is doubly so for our schools as we pay to heat them for most of the year. Perhaps instead of spending billions of $$ on building new facilities we can just make better use of the existing schools.
Realistically the same can be said for diagnostic equipment and hospital/surgical spaces. Medical facilities and equipment should not be sitting idle and should be in use 24 hours a day.
