Today is officially the last day of summer.

I’ve been fairly off social media this past summer. It has been a fairly busy one for us here on the “little acreage that grows”. But I have been watching.

There has been and is about to be a lot of change in our family.
1) My first grandchild is scheduled by c-section, to be born on Sept 23. Today was it’s due date. I say it because my daughter has decided to keep this one surprise in life and does not know the sex of the baby. This is the start of something new and something I honestly did not think would ever happen. Of course I am over the moon…. But it also makes even more visible to me for the need for a change in my perception of the future of humanity. I have always wondered what I can contribute to making the world better. I am still contemplating that.

2) At the same time as my daughter is set to give birth, my 95 yr old mother in law’s health is seriously faltering. I love her to bits but I would definitely not want to live the life she has been living these past 5 years. It’s a conundrum.

3) 2 weeks ago and at 38 weeks pregnant, my oldest daughter defended her PhD thesis. Her thesis was to do with the chemical makeup of biochar and other material results from forest fires and it supports controlled burns based on Ph’s, soil conditions before and after etc. It is enlightening. Forest renewal. At any rate, for our family, the PhD signifies the end of any university influence on anyone in our family. Good riddance, wokeness.

4) The garden. Another year of great harvest and lots of new learning. Every single crop we tried was successful and abundant. Our pea crop just quit producing last week. @MissSmiley, we had a huge few pickings since you stopped in. Record frozen and freeze dried veggies. So many so that we had to purchase another freezer. All that remains in our garden of gardens, is some huge cabbage, carrots, beets and potatoes. The beets will come out today and will be pickled by the end of the week.

5) In May, we got a new German shepherd puppy. Our last was lost to old age in October. I will tell you this, while I feel more secure with him around, this will be the last puppy for us. It’s too difficult for us old people to raise a (75 lbs so far!) big dog.

All of this new and old life. Growing and harvesting of life, has had me thinking for a while- about what my part is in turning around this world. I am not saying I have a significant part to play but I think we all have to play a part if we want to turn this around.

Today I started the process of designing and ordering 500 “Pay it Forward” cards. I am still trying to figure out the logistics of how best to start a positive domino effect. I will get back to you on that and if you have ideas about how to be most effective, be sure to comment.

If this world is going to become good and decent, we are going to have to guide it somewhat, I think.

Happy last day of summer. I have a bit of time left in my beloved garden and my roses are still blooming like crazy. (I will get some pictures!!) I can never remember when they finish from year to year but now, I will have my first grandchild’s birthday to use as a measuring stick.

Take good care, my tribe.

Happy last day of summer and happy Sunday. God wins, my friends. God wins. Let’s help him out a bit.

Bonny
