Here's a strange question. If Alberta became independent, would we have to write all new laws? Criminal, civil, etc. Just for instance, making gun ownership legal, along with self defense?
How about adopting a militia-based military like Switzerland where able bodied male citizens are conscripted (women can volunteer) into basic training and then assigned to reserve units. When they return to civilian life, they are issued a service rifle to keep at home. Not perfect but a good start.
The wheels of justice are still moving, albeit slowly.
