I will say this about Alberta separating or becoming the 51st state...
I have never in my almost 40 years of living in Alberta felt that this is a possibility more than I do right now. It feels like everything is lining up like never before. And I'm ok with that. I've always been one to write down PROs and CONs and honestly the only CON I can see to Wexit or 51st State is an emotional connection to the idea of "Canada". Canada is not a serious country and the more I learn about it the more I realise that not only have we never been but we can never be one without major overhaul. PROs and CONs that I see (and I look forward to hearing yours):
PROs to separating:
PROs to 51st State:
The more I learn about Canada's political structure, the more I realise that Canada is lopsided and rotten from the top-down - from inception. Who would create a country where the leader chooses the senate FOR LIFE that has so much control over passing the bills that govern the citizens?! Trudeau is currently planning to stack the senate (10 seats) so that his liberal woke WEF agenda can live on and the senate will stymie Poilievre/Conservative plans. What a stupid system! And of course there's also the electoral process where 338 seats are lopsided towards ON and PQ so western votes don't matter. This is not and has never been a truly equal and united country - it's only ever been a patriotic feeling. And it's not just about getting away from a Westminister parliamentary/commonwealth/monarchial system - it's about becoming a constitutional republic...in other words THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.
CONs to leaving Canada:
I honestly, and unfortunately, don't think that Canada will end up an actual 51st state because the majority of Canadians won't do a deep dive into the cost/benefit analysis but will just emotionally say "never American" - even if it means cutting off their nose to spite their face - just like they do with pipelines! And honestly, there's a lot of Americans who don't want Canada because they see us as a "blue" liberal mess. But I do think there will be an economic union. But honestly, why would we want to sell our resources without getting something like voting rights, resident rights, constitutional rights in return? That's a very Jagmeet Singh way of doing business!
We are fortunate to have Danielle Smith at the bargaining table and I hope that more and more people wake up and smell the coffee. But just like there are "never Trumpers" there are those who hate Danielle no matter what she does. Data and logic don't win over their closed, uninformed, fogged, emotional minds.
I think we are at a tipping point. I know which way I'd vote on a referendum.
What say you?

“Speaking to reporters Wednesday, Smith said critics of the report are trying to control the narrative and said she doesn’t want to see “contrarian voices” shut out when reviewing pandemic response measures.”

“Smith said crews from Trump’s favoured Fox News television network have been at the Coutts border crossing in southern Alberta to highlight Canada’s efforts to improve border security.
“We want to ensure that the American people along with their president and elected representatives know that action is being taken on this issue,” Smith said.
“We are hopeful that these Fox News appearances display our province’s and our nation’s commitment.”
Smith cited remarks made earlier in the day by Howard Lutnick — the CEO of a finance services company and Trump’s pick to lead the department of commerce — indicating that Canada could avoid tariffs if it continues its efforts to secure its border with the U.S.
“If we are your biggest trading partner, show us the respect, shut your border,” he said during his confirmation hearing in Washington.”
