Bill 26: Alberta aims to assert greater control over immigration, create employer registry for foreign workers:
“Jobs, Economy and Trade Minister Joseph Schow tabled Bill 26 — Immigration Oversight Act, 2026 — in the legislature on Wednesday. If passed, it would require employers to register with the province before accessing federal temporary foreign worker programs.
“This is about protecting Alberta’s reputation and it’s also about protecting the workers who are coming here,” Schow said at a Wednesday press conference.
Under the legislation, a public registry would be established by the province where employers would have to register.
The legislation would also establish an Alberta licensing system for immigration consultants and foreign worker recruiters to operate in the province. “
