1905’s Nadine sent out this email.

Guess she got the message and now the backpeddling begins.

It has come to our attention that certain individuals or organizations are attempting to misuse the 1905 Committee’s brand to create false narratives about our purpose. Since our inception, we have faced numerous attacks, seemingly from those who wish to discredit our mission by spreading fabrications and misinformation.

For those familiar with our work, you know our message has always been clear: we are committed to promoting principled governance, sound policies, and holding the government accountable. We believe that a promise made must be a promise kept. Politicians are accountable to the people who elected them, and they must act in the best interest of all Albertans, upholding truth and the rule of law.

Albertans are frustrated with the cycle of empty speeches, broken promises, and poor performance from our elected officials. Too often, we hear excuses for why they cannot deliver on their commitments. But there comes a time when enough is enough. Real change requires sustained public pressure, and the 1905 Committee has been applying that pressure. Our efforts have not gone unnoticed. However, instead of addressing the issues we've raised, some have chosen the easier path of attacking us with false narratives and outright lies.

To set the record straight, we want to address the recent rumors head-on. The claims that the 1905 Committee has paid leftists to join the UCP to vote against Danielle Smith are false and defamatory. This raises a critical question however: who is spreading these lies, and why?

As an organization we value individual freedom and respect each person’s right to vote according to their conscience. The 1905 Committee has always asked for your support on our policies, but we have never dictated how anyone should vote on the issue of Danielle Smith’s leadership review. That decision is yours alone.

In today's climate, challenging the government's narrative is risky, as those in power often retaliate against those who dare to dissent.

While there are groups and individuals that may seek to remove Danielle Smith, this is not a directive of the 1905 Committee. Our intent is to hold government to account, regardless of leadership.

Thank you for your continued support in standing up for principled governance and the future of Alberta.

Sincerely,

1905 Committee

Carney gave Ukraine $2,500,000,000 or $2.5 billion dollars yesterday, but in reality it was Alberta that gave them the money because eastern Canada has no money.
Separation is the only way.

It's time to go

Looks like there will be a separation referendum in Alberta in 2026. As a risk manager, it is important to weigh tail risk events like this.

Alberta’s separation would create a fiscal shock of historic proportions for the country. The province is by far the biggest net contributor to the country amounting to roughly $14 billion annually to federal coffers, money that underpins programs like equalization and major transfers.

Removing this contribution would force Ottawa to either run significantly larger deficits or impose tax hikes to maintain current spending levels. Equalization alone would become politically and financially untenable: Quebec’s $13.3 billion entitlement would consume nearly the entire remaining envelope, leaving other recipient provinces with nothing or triggering deep proportional cuts. For Atlantic Canada and Manitoba, where equalization represents 15–20% of total budgets, this would be devastating.

Beyond transfers, Alberta is ...
